A handy menu to stop devices
The main disadvantage of using the built-in Windows safe removal tool is that when using several hot-plug devices it is often quite difficult to recognize which device needs to be stopped. Most devices have the same name: "USB mass storage device". In addition, Windows does not let you hide a device you would not want to stop from the menu.

The device cannot be stopped right now. Why?
Ever encountered the situation when Windows does not allow you to remove a device? Unlike Windows, USB Safely Remove will show you the programs which prevent the device from being stopped and let you close these programs or just the files they opened on the device.

Keyboard shortcuts to safe removal
Like to do everything using the keyboard? Now you can stop and view devices with only ONE hotkey! No need to remember keyboard shortcuts for each device. Being in any application, press the key combination (Win+S by default) and you will see the stop menu. Use the Up\Down Arrow keys to select the device you need and either press Enter to stop it or Ctrl B to view the contents of a device disk. Also you can assign a dedicated hotkey to stop a certain device.

Program autorun on device connection\disconnection
Another USB Safely Remove feature that distinguishes it from similar software is starting any applications not only after connecting a device, but also before removing it. The autorun feature allows you to set up data backup before disconnecting a removable hard drive, to run Total Commander with the contents of the pen-drive, automatically unmount an encrypted TrueCrypt drive before disconnecting the USB media, etc.

Command line to safe removal
USB Safely Remove has a powerful and convenient command line: usr.exe. It allows you to automate work with devices. For example, you can automatically stop devices according to schedule or in case of any other event. In addition the command line tool of "USB Safely Remove" allows to "return device back".

Working with any hot-plug devices - USB, SATA, FireWire, PCMCIA
Another important difference between the program and the standard Safely Remove Hardware icon is the possibility to see and stop any kinds of hotplug devices. If USB Safely Remove does not display the device you need, try enabling the "Display all storage devices" checkbox in the program options.

Stopping via "disabling"
Some kinds of external devices (e.g. SATA drives from Silicon Image), are true hot-plug devices. However, their drivers do not support the "safe removal" function. Such devices are not displayed in the native safe removal tool and can be stopped only via disabling in the Device Manager. It is a tiresome way, because it requires many actions to do, moreover you must enable the device manually after you connect it next time.

Not only does USB Safely Remove allow you to stop such devices, it also detects automatically what devices must be "safely removed" and which devices must be "disabled." Also, the program enables the "disabled" device automatically on its next connection, thus it makes working with the device absolutely the same as with a usual device.

Ejecting memory cards rather than the card reader
If you had safely removed a card reader, you would need to physically reconnect it in order to make it work with cards again (or to use "Return device back" feature of the program). In the case of two or more memory cards connected to the card reader at the same time, they all become unavailable in the system after you stop the card reader. USB Safely Remove lets you eject memory cards one-by-one. Moreover, if the memory card was locked by any processes, the program would display these "locking" processes as well as it does on failure to stop a whole device.

Hiding drives of empty card reader slots
Do you have a card reader with several slots? If you said "yes", you would likely use only one memory card at a time, however your card reader creates up to four drives in your system. It may be annoying because you are required to spend more time finding the memory card drive among other "empty" card reader drives.

Return Device Back!
After you had stopped the device, but still did not unplug it, sometimes it is quite useful to return it back into the system. For example if you remembered that you forgot to write a file to the external drive. In order to do it, you have to physically reconnect the device, however sometimes it's quite inconvenient to do, e.g. if the device is connected to the rear panel of the computer.

The version contains some minor bug-fixes and improvements, besides it contains one important thing: the ability to power off devices on stopping in Vista and Windows 7.

A bit more story on this feature. When you safely remove the device in Windows XP it powers the device off – in case off a flash drive its led was switched off and in case of a portable hard drive it was spun down. But Microsoft changed this behavior in Vista and it still exists in Win 7: after you stop the device on these OSes the hard drive continue spinning and flash drive continue lighting. All modern hard drives park their heads automatically when you unplug them so in theory this behavior shouldn’t lead to data losses or drive damages. But in practice external hard drive usually sounds strangely when you unplug it on run and this makes a hard drive owner being a bit nervous when he hears that. We have got lots of feedback requests on this feature therefore we added it to the new version.

In order to enable device power off feature you need to go to the program options and set the "Power off the device after device stopping" option

After you do this just restart the computer and starting from this moment, leds on pen drives will be switched off and external hard drives will be spun down on stopping.

7 Ways to Make a Good Impression

 
Impressions are important: They leave an initial taste in people's mouths that can remain prevalent for the entire relationship. If you are paranoid about what kind of impression you make, run through these seven list items and see if you are consistent with them; if you are, then you will probably expose the best of yourself. If not, then work to meet these standards.

1. Dress: The absolute first impression you will make on someone will be through your clothing, because that is what is seen from a distance, and cannot change throughout your meeting. Make sure to dress according to the situation-don't over or under dress-and maintain within the limits of good taste. If you aren't sure if what you're wearing looks good, ask people for an honest opinion. One last thought: always, and I mean always, pull up your pants.

2. Hygiene: Take a shower! Shave! Brush your teeth! You must be fully bathed and groomed before you meet with someone for the first time, because scruffy looking people generally don't seem as neat and mature. Pay attention to the little elements like breath: keep a pack of mint gum with you wherever you go, and periodically check to make sure you aren't killing bugs every time you breathe out. If you sweat heavily, keep a small stick of deodorant/anti-perspirant close, and if you notice you're stinking you can freshen up. People notice the minutiae!


3. Manners: At the table and with other people be civilized, polite and respectful: keep your elbows off of the table, open doors for people and address everyone-initially, at least-by their formal title. This will make an especially good impression on senior citizens, because you will prove that you aren't one of those "new fangled punks."

4. Speech: Have clean, clear diction and speak sans "like" or "you know." It is important to be articulate because that inspires a feeling of intelligence and education in the person you are meeting with. Always leave out profanity, and whatever you do, make sure to speak loud enough for all to hear, because conversationalists are easily agitated if you force them say "excuse me?" more than a few times.


5. Discretion: Choose what to share about yourself: forget to tell everyone about that time you went camping and ruptured your appendix, then fell face first into a pile of bug infested leaves-it is rude and will alienate you from the group. Try to withhold from conversations on personal subjects like religion or more disgusting topics like personal medical care. Before you speak, think about the possible impact of what you might say, then imagine its implications in the long run.
6. Humor: Humor can be your most powerful tool or your doom, because everyone has a slightly different sense of humor. What might be hilarious to you might seem disgusting to another, or vice versa. Try to withhold from any jokes that aren't family or dinner table friendly; you can tell those later.

7. Start and End with a Bang: I am a classical musician, and in my orchestra, among other messages, the conductor tells us that the "audience remembers mostly the first and last notes of a symphony." This is the same in a personal encounter: whoever you are meeting with will remember how you greet them, and then in what manner you left them. If you feel you have trouble with this, practice a few different phrases in the mirror, and introduce elements like: "pleased to meet you," or "honored to make your acquaintance." Ignore the antiquity of these phrases; it often makes them more memorable.

Making a good impression will set any relationship off on a good foot. If you are in a situation where you need to be judged at face value-such as a job interview or date-then make sure to go through this list and make sure you are within bounds of reason and good taste on all of your decisions.

Pixar brings fascinating animation world to Hong Kong

HONG KONG, March 27 (Xinhua) -- The latest exhibition by Pixar Animation Studios opened Sunday at the Hong Kong Heritage Museum on the first stop of its new global tour.
The exhibition "Pixar: 25 Years of Animation" building on the success of its last international tour, offers the most comprehensive review of Pixar's work to date.
The exhibition features more than 400 pieces/sets of artifacts, some of which have never been seen outside of the studio's archives previously, including traditional artwork in various mediums, maquettes, early animated short films, and one-of-a-kind media installations created by Pixar Technical Artists, as well as artwork from Cars 2, which has yet even been released.
The exhibition illustrates the three key elements that make an animated film. These are "character", which moves the story forward and gives the viewer something or someone to identify with; "story", which starts with a concept and scripts, then visually represents the film with storyboards; and "world", which depicts the special environments for each film envisioned by the Pixar artists.
The studio, which was set up in 1986 and has many blockbuster animation movies including Toy Story and Finding Nemo under its belt, hopes the months-long exhibition could offer visitors an artistic insight into the studio's hugely successful and most beloved films.
The exhibition is scheduled to last until July 11.

Nintendo 3DS launch game round-up

Today the Nintendo 3DS officially launches in the US. You've already read the review, but what about the games? 16 are available for purchase today, and we've had our hands on the majority of them. We've rounded up our thoughts on these titles to provide a handy guide for launch day.
Madden Football: EA's powerhouse NFL franchise is somewhat less so on the 3DS: it doesn't even get a number (just "Madden Football"). On the other hand, the depth effect of Nintendo 3DS gaming seems to suit sports games perfectly: the field seems more expansive in 3D. NFL junkies will appreciate the improved graphics and animation, but it's a seriously pared-down experience: no franchise mode, no minigames...not even multiplayer (no joke). For the hard-core fans only.
Pilotwings Resort: Easily the 3DS' flagship game, Pilotwings Resort does provide some impressive 3D flying fun in a trio of apparatuses. While the mission-based challenges are fun, there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of them. However, plenty of time can be wasted flying around the island and trying to discover hidden items and areas. Be careful not to max out the 3D setting here, it's tough to see straight when it's turned all the way up.
Lego Star Wars III: Here's the nice surprise about the Clone Wars-themed Lego Star Wars game: not only is it good, but it feels just like a console game. You could argue the game doesn't need 3D at all, but the birds-eye-view levels almost become little dioramas with the 3D slider turned up. With its plethora of characters and extras, this is a launch game that'll last a while.
Super Street Fighter IV: 3D Edition: Having Street Fighter IV in the palm of your hands is certainly something to get excited about and the game does a great job at shrinking the console version down to a portable size. While the fighting controls perform well, we're just not sure this is a game that needs to be in 3D. Sure, the background depth-effect provides a nice amount of eye candy, but in a game where button mashing can un-sync the player from 3D, we think most people are better off playing in 2D.
Pro Evolution Soccer 2011 3D:This is the real must-have sports launch game for the 3DS. While Madden might still be choice for NFL nuts, Konami's excellent port of their solid footie franchise feels silky-smooth on the 3DS. While 3D isn't necessary in order to enjoy the game, the added depth actually helps perspective on a crowded field. Not only are tons of teams available, but this one's got local one-on-one wireless play, too.
Super Monkey Ball 3D: We love the Super Monkey Ball franchise, but the 3DS version seems a little sparse. The 70-plus levels don't get significantly challenging until about halfway through the game. There are two minigames, though: a Mario Kart-like racer that feels like a whole separate game, and a 4-player mini-brawl that'll kill a few minutes, provided you can round up three other 3DS owners.
Nintendogs + Cats: There's no denying Nintendogs + Cats is the cutest launch game available for the 3DS launch, we're just not sure it's worth a purchase for those who've played the DS original. That said, the dogs do look and act more realistic than in the past, so for those looking for a healthy dose of adorable, Nintendogs + Cats is worth taking for a walk.
Rayman 3D: While we had a few issues with some ghosting when playing in 3D, Rayman is a solid platforming adventure game for the 3DS. It's just a port of the classic title Rayman 2: The Great Escape, so for those who've yet to have the pleasure of a playthrough, having a go in 3D is definitely an added bonus.
Steel Diver: At first glance, this side-scrolling submarine shooter feels like a weird throwaway launch game. Give it a little time: the controls and level challenges get surprisingly tricky, and the 3D tunnels show off the 3DS 3D effects excellently. A 3D motion-controlled periscope-shooter mode will just make you dizzy fast. Bonus: a turn-based strategy game mode feels like shades of Nintendo's old Advance Wars.
The Sims 3: It's the Sims, but in 3D. To EA's credit, this handheld version feels more robust than previous handheld Sims, but...well...we just can't get excited about The Sims anymore. Do you know anyone who can?
Ridge Racer 3D: Namco's racer gets trotted out for every game system launch we can remember, and it's here to welcome in the 3DS, too. We initially soured on the old-fashioned car controls, but the game's got plenty of race modes, unlockable cars, customizable upgrades, and even a mode that will custom-create a race circuit based on how much time you'd like to play. Once you let the 3D race tracks sink into your eyeballs for a few minutes, it's also one of the most immersive launch games around.
Asphalt 3D: The second of two racing titles available at launch is Asphalt 3D, a more arcade-like experience than Ridge Racer 3D. Fans of the Burnout series will notice a few similarities, including elimination and survival races. We can't help but notice that Asphalt doesn't run as smooth as Ridge Racer, but each title's 3D is experience is among the more satisfying out of all the launch games.
Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars: Be warned: Shadow Wars is not like any of the Ghost Recon games you're probably used to playing. In fact, it's actually a turn-based strategy game where players manage different classes of Ghosts. Each mission has a different objective and the 3D turns the game into a sort of dimensional board game. There's not a whole lot of action here, but turn-based fans will be served well.

The Bible’s Greatest Hits – As Seen by God and Google Earth

The Art-Project Idea of the Year award goes to The Glue Society, an arts collective based in Sydney, Australia. As it goes, The Glue Society had the stroke of genius to take a few of the best stories of the bible, those that before only existed as Sunday School fodder, into entirely factual events as proven by modern technology. They’ve managed to visualize these biblical milestones vis à vis God, or else some dude fucking around on Google Earth.
It’s genius really, if you think about it, bringing together the tech-savvy heathens and the bible-thumping righteous in an evocative call to arms. And the images, as you can see, are entirely haunting. Probably not unlike the actual events, had they really happened.
Also, if you have a thing for being amused, check out their website as well. It’ll bring back you back to your 8-bit youth in no time.

Top 10 Codes You Aren’t Meant To Know

Stores, hospitals, entertainment venues, and other places where the public are together in large numbers, use secret codes to pass information between store employees. These are meant to be a secret as they don’t want to alarm the non-staff members or alert someone (like a thief) to the fact that they have been noticed. Many stores have their own codes – for example WalMart, but there are a number that are nearly universal in application. This is a list of ten secret codes that may prove useful to you in future, or at least dispel any curiosity you may have if you hear them.

Ten Codes

The Ten Codes are a list of codes used by law enforcement officers in the United States. They are available on the Internet which would make them seem inappropriate for this list, but a large number of police departments have tried to have them made illegal for distribution, so they deserve a mention. The codes were developed initially in 1937 and were expanded in 1974. The California Police use a variety of extra codes which predated the ten codes. For example, a 187 (one eighty-seven) means homicide. In the ten codes system, a 10-31 means that a crime is in progress, a 10-27-1 means homicide (the 10 is usually not said when it is a three-number sequence), and a 10-00 (ten double-zero) means “officer down – all patrols respond. Professional Codes

In computer support, a variety of codes can be used when referring to a customer. One of these codes has become fairly well known on the internet: PEBKAC (Problem Exists Between Keyboard And Chair) but there are a variety of others that are lesser known. One of these is used when reporting a fault which has been fixed: “The fault was a PICNIC” (problem in chair – not in computer), or “ID 10 T Error” – ID 10 T is, of course, IDIOT. Let us hope that you never see this noted down on your file when a serviceman is fixing your computer.

Time Check

Time Check (usually taking a similar form to: “Time check: the time is 12:00″) can be a code in stores for a bomb alert. It alerts the staff to follow the bomb procedure, which can be to either try to locate any suspicious packages, or to prepare to get the hell out. If you hear a time check in a store, it is probably a good idea to start moving toward the exit. Surprisingly – and shockingly, the majority of stores that use this code actually expect their staff to search for the bomb – certainly an aspect of the job that the majority of teenaged checkout operators weren’t expecting when they signed up I am sure.

Code 10

A code 10 in hospitals can refer to a mass casualty or serious threat (such as a bomb alert), but the majority of people experiencing a code 10 will do so for another far more common reason: a “code 10 authorization” is made by a merchant when he needs to call a credit card company to enquire about your card. This means that he is suspicious of you or your card and doesn’t want you to know it while he gets it checked out. When the credit card company hears that they have a code 10, they will ask a series of yes/no questions to the merchant in order to find out what the situation is. This will often result in the merchant keeping your card if they believe it is safe to do so. This type of call often results in a call to law enforcement.

Doctor Brown

“Doctor Brown” is a code word often used in hospitals to alert security staff to a threat to personnel. If a nurse or doctor is in danger from a violent patient or non-staff member, they can page Doctor Brown to their location and the security staff will rush to their aid. In some hospitals, code silver is used to refer to a person with a weapon, and code gray can mean a violent person without a weapon. Hospitals have a huge array of various codes to describe all manner of situations. They often differ from hospital to hospital and they are usually not internationally recognized. Code Oscar

On a ship, a code oscar means someone has gone overboard. If the ship has to maneuver erratically to handle the situation, it must also send out blasts on the signal so that other ships nearby are aware of the fact that it is about to change its course. It should be noted that ships don’t have an internationally standardized set of PA signals and they can differ from place to place, but this is a fairly commonly used one. Oh – and a code delta can mean that there is a biological hazard – though who knows what that might be on a passenger ship. And finally, Code Alpha often means “medical emergency”.

Code Bravo

Code Bravo is the code phrase for a general security alert at airports. Unlike most of the codes on this list, the code is meant to cause alarm – but not through knowing what it means: when this alert is raised, all of the security agents will begin to yell “Code Bravo” in order to frighten the passengers – this is supposed to make it easier for the agents to locate the source of the problem without interference from the general public. For those of you who travel on ships from time to time, you may like to know that Code Bravo means “fire” and it is the most serious alert on a ship – if it burns, you either get off or burn with it. Ships also often use sound signals, such as 7 short and 1 long, meaning “man the lifeboats”.

Inspector Sands

Inspector Sands (or sometimes Mr Sands), is a code for fire in the United Kingdom. Obviously it would not be appropriate for the service staff of a store to announce a fire publicly, so this code is used to alert the appropriate staff to the danger without upsetting customers. The wording differs from place to place and in the Underground network a recorded “Inspector Sands” warning is automatically triggered by smoke detectors. In some shops you will hear the code used in a phrase such as “Will inspector Sands please report to the men’s changing room” if the fire is in the men’s changing room. It was played on a continuous loop through the underground during the July 7, 2005 bombings, and has been incorrectly described as a code word for a bomb – the frequently used code for a bomb in the Underground is “Mr Gravel” – for example, “Mr Gravel is in the foyer”. Mr Sands (or sometimes Mr Johnson) is also used in theaters in the case of fire. You can listen to a recording of the Underground “Inspector Sands” warning here.

WalMart

WalMart gets its own item on this list because they have a large number of codes that are store specific. Some of their codes should not worry you – for example a code 10 or a code 20 just means that there has been a dry spill or a wet spill – the biggest danger this poses to you is that you might slip over. A code 300 calls for security and a code orange means there has been a chemical spill. But here are the ones you really need to worry about: Code red means there is a fire in the building – get the hell out if you hear this. Worse still, a code blue means there is a bomb in the building. Exit swiftly but don’t run – in case they think you planted it. A code green means there is a hostage situation and a code white means there is an accident. The one you are most likely to hear is a code c which is simply a call for customer service (usually meaning that more cashiers are needed). And finally – the most famous WalMart code… well, it’s so famous it needs its own item:

Code Adam

Code Adam was invented by Walmart but it is now an internationally recognized alert. It means “missing child”. The code was first coined in 1994 in memory of Adam Walsh, a six-year old, who went missing in a Sears department store in Florida in 1981. Adam was later found murdered. The person making the announcement will state “we have a code Adam,” followed by a description of the missing child. As soon as the alert is heard, security staff will begin to monitor the doors and other exits. If the child is not found within 10 minutes, the police are alerted and a store search begins. Also, if the child is found in the first 10 minutes in the company of an unknown adult, the police must be called and the person detained if it is safe to do so. In 2003, the US Congress passed legislation making a “Code Adam” program compulsory in all federal office buildings. A similar alert is called an AMBER alert, a backronym for “America’s Missing: Broadcasting Emergency Response” but initially named for Amber Hagerman, a 9 year old girl who was abducted and murdered.

World’s Biggest Diamond Mine

World’s Biggest Diamond Mine is located at Mirna, Eastern Siberia, Russia. The mine is 525 meters (1,722 ft) deep and has a diameter of 1,200 m (3,900 ft).

The town is strictly off limits to outsiders without a special permit and the authorities regard any foreigners with considerable suspicion. BBC Reported about this

History:
The mine was discovered on June 13, 1955 by Soviet geologists Yuri Khabardin, Ekaterina Elagina and Viktor Avdeenko during the large Amakinsky Expedition in Yakut ASSR. They found traces of volcanic rock kimberlite which are usually associated with diamonds. This finding was the first success in the search for kimberlite in Russia, after numerous failed expeditions of the 1940s and 1950s. For this discovery, in 1957 Khabardin was given the Lenin Prize, which was one of the highest awards in the Soviet Union.

The development of the mine had started in 1957 in extremely harsh climate conditions. Seven months of winter per year froze the ground into permafrost, which was hard in winter, but turned into sludge in summer. Buildings had to be raised on piles, so that they would not sink in summer, and the main processing plant had to be built on a better ground found 20 km away from the mine. The winter temperatures were so low that car tires and steel would shatter and oil would freeze. During the winter, the workers used jet engines to defreeze and dig out the permafrost or blasted it with dynamite to get access to the underlying kimberlite. The entire mine had to be covered at night to prevent the machinery from freezing.

The mine is so big and giat that the airspace above the mine is closed for helicopters because of a few incidents in which they were sucked in by the downward air flow. To give an idea how big it is here is is a fine illustration.
